About the Artist
Attracted to the transparent, unpredictable quality of watercolors, I took my first art class in watercolors and have never looked back. I've lived in Michigan most of my life and am inspired by the beauty of the varied landscape - grungy urban scenes to pristine woodlands and lakeshores - and my paintings reflect that variety. I paint things I love like my dogs, trees, marshes, old buildings, people. And like others, I struggle a little with how to make these very sentimental subjects relatable for a wider audience.
A few years ago, I branched into pastels so I could collect all of those beautiful sticks of pure pigment and stare at them every day. I love the feel of the pastel in my hand and the forgiving nature of the medium. Now I go back and forth between pastels and watercolor, depending on the effect I'm after.
